5 Bible Study Tips You Can Use to Get Closer To God
As a Catholic, I want to grow closer to God. And there are many ways that we can do that. Lately, I’ve been turning to The Bible Project when it comes to looking into God’s Word, however, I love to read the Bible when I’m on vacation, enjoying the sunny weather, or when I want to do some bible studying with my Fiancé.
Getting into a routine for Bible study is hard at first, however, with time, and consideration, it will be a piece of cake. Remember, we don’t have to read straight through your Bible, try doing daily devotionals in the morning and night time, the goal is to simply spend time in God's Word, so you can be closer to Our Father. It’s a beautiful journey.
5 Bible Study Tips
1. Use Resources
We have a ton of apps and websites at our fingertips when it comes to consuming God’s Word. I love using Hallow, the basic Bible app, The Bible Project, and EWTN. With these apps/websites you can have daily devotions scheduled, you can stream masses, and more. We are always on our phones, let’s use that benefit in connecting with God.
2. Start With A Prayer
Before diving in too the Bible, always take a moment to pray. Pray that you will understand the passage you are reading, and with the knowledge you’ve learned, you can use it in your everyday life. A simple prayer can open your heart to God.
Example:
Lord, as I read Your word, please help me to know, love, and understand You better.
Help me to recognize how You want me to apply Your Word to my life.
Holy Spirit, may You enlighten my mind and enkindle in my heart
a greater love for You and others in my family and the world as I read Your Word.
Amen.
3. Read Slowly
When reading, most people might automatically think to read quickly. However, we should cherish the moments we have when reading the Bible, read slowly and out loud.
4. Take Notes
When it comes to taking notes, they are meant to help you better understand the passage you are reading, think of it as a study guide.
Stay tuned for more information on how to take notes when it comes to Bible study, a blog post will soon be up about this topic!
5. Silence Can Be Key
After Reading, most people might walk away and continue with their day, however, that’s not how you end a conversation, abruptly. Take a moment and pray, thank God for giving you this time to pray and reflect on his word. Then, just sit there. Meditate on what you’ve read and just be present, ask God to clear the noise, and clear your mind so that you may hear him.
Dear Blessed Mother,
Please help this reader when it comes to their journey on consuming God’s word. May they use this journey to connect with God more as a child of light. Pray for us mother Mary that we may all become closer to the holy trinity in our everyday practice.
Amen.
